Fall into order: Four tips to reset your space this fall

{Inside: Four tips to fall into order and reset your space this fall}

Summer is fabulous — few would disagree. But when fall arrives, it can be tough to get back into rhythm. The idea of “falling into order” doesn’t always sound appealing after months of long days, looser schedules, and well-earned vacations.

Yet fall is the perfect season to re-ground yourself, reset routines, and breathe new energy into your home and life.

In spring, I always encourage people to lighten up — to clear clutter so summer can be enjoyed without the weight of “too much stuff.” But fall deserves its own kind of clearing. Think of it as spring cleaning in reverse: a way to prepare for the shorter, colder days ahead by creating space that feels alive, clear, and welcoming.

Because here’s the truth: less cluttered spaces actually breathe. They invite in clarity, creativity, and calm. It’s like letting a warm summer breeze flow through your living room in the middle of winter.

Here are four simple ways to fall into order:

1. Create a healthy morning routine

How you begin your day sets the tone for everything that follows. Try a simple practice like journaling your thoughts (Morning Pages), reading something uplifting, stretching, or sipping warm lemon water. Even setting one clear intention can shift your mindset and help you step into the day with more focus and ease.

2. Create a healthy evening routine

A strong morning begins the night before. Shut down electronics at least an hour before bed, and replace screen time with reading or journaling. Write down three good things that happened that day to end on a positive note. Make your room a sleep sanctuary: keep it dark, diffuse calming scents like lavender, and allow your body to recharge fully. A restful night makes it easier to greet the next morning with energy.

3. Rejuvenate your “command center”

Summer often means this area of your home — a desk, kitchen corner, or shelf — is neglected. But fall brings schedules, paperwork, and responsibilities back in full swing. Clear the clutter, file important papers, and keep surfaces clean. Then review your calendar and block time for non-negotiables. A clear space makes for a clearer mind.

4. Tidy up consistently

This small habit creates a big payoff. After the ease of summer, it’s easy to get out of practice. Bring it back: clean the sink after meals, reset the living room each evening, and always return items to their proper home. Daily tidying removes mental friction and helps you feel grounded in your space.

Fall into order.

Reset your routines, clear the clutter, and breathe new life into your home. When you do, you’ll find it’s easier to welcome the season ahead with clarity, energy, and joy.
